Are Slim Suits Losing Popularity at Local Stores?

WESTBURY, NY - For years, slim-fit suits that were very tight and shaped to the body were the big trend. But now, a different look is becoming more popular at clothing stores around Long Island, New York.

Tony Rizzo, a 48-year-old manager at Huntington Country Club, noticed this shift in suit styles during a recent shopping trip. He went to Suits Outlets in Westbury, one of the most well known men's fashion supplier in New York, to buy some new suits for work.

"The sales person showed me these suits with a looser, more relaxed regular fit," Rizzo said. "The jackets and pants weren't tight against my body like the slim-fit suits I usually buy."

The sales person told Rizzo the very tight, slim-cut suits are looking outdated these days. Roomier suits with a relaxed, comfortable fit are now becoming the new trend.

"I tried on one of the relaxed suits and it didn't feel as constricting," said Rizzo. "But it still looked neat and professional."

According to Sean Monti, Retail Manager at Suits Outlets, relaxed suit styles are making a comeback after over a decade of the slim-fit suit being the biggest trend. However, the slim look hasn't gone away completely yet. 

Rizzo decided to buy a couple relaxed suits to start wearing for work. But he's also keeping some of his slimmer suits for now. "For my job, I need to look current but also classic and polished," he explained.
