Trench Coats vs. Overcoats: Battling the Elements in Style
Our most common weather warriors are two of the most classic jackets, the trench coat and the overcoat. Contrado gave us a deep dive into the history of trench coats. They taught us about their militant roots and how they made their mark on history all these years. King and Allen tells us a similar history of overcoats. But what makes these jackets different?
What is the difference between a trench coat and an overcoat?
There are many benefits to wearing a trench coat. Aside from the flattering fit it gives your figure, it is a versatile lightweight jacket. They are ideal for Spring and early Fall. You can wear them classically or layer them according to the weather and style. They are also water resistant and very durable considering the weather conditions they are usually worn in.
Overcoats, on the other hand, are ideal for late Fall, or early Winter. They were designed for cold weather, while still having a sophisticated look that can elevate any outfit! The full-length design gives you full protection in the harsh winter climates. Overcoats are a great investment, as you can have them for many years with the proper care.
Trench coats and Overcoats both deserve a spot in your closet. With both, you will be ready to take on any weather conditions and look good in any social situation. As always, the key is to choose the jacket that will make you feel the most confident and comfortable.
