Your Labor Day Plans, Suited

Labor Day wasn't always a festive holiday. In 1882, a group of New York workers marched from City Hall to Union Square in the city to mark what American labor built. Twelve years later, it became a federal holiday. Somewhere down the line, it became our last hoorah for the Summer. Normally, we celebrate with parades, cookouts, or even have one last beach day before the cold weather creeps in. If you're heading to a parade 

Parades are always fun, but they can be a bit much if you're not prepared. A lightweight leisure suit works every time. It holds its shape, breathes well, and looks intentional without putting in too much effort. 

If it's a backyard cookout

Cookouts are always super casual. Since they are usually outdoors, you don't have to wear a full suit at one of these. A nice blazer over a simple T-shirt and jeans gives you that "dressed, but not trying too hard" look.

If there's a dinner or evening gathering

This is where your real suit will shine. Once the sun goes down, a lightweight wool-blend suit will keep you dapper while looking reserved rather than overdressed.

However your day unfolds, the idea for all of your outfits will stay the same. Dress for the heat while dressing for the occasion, but staying comfortable is always the most important!

The phrase "no white after Labor Day"  is an old etiquette rule from wealthy 19th-century Americans. They would switch from light summer tones to darker, richer tones once summer ended. Nobody actually enforces it anymore, so we won't tell if you wear white after Labor Day!
