Labor Day wasn't always a festive holiday. In 1882, a group of New York workers marched from City Hall to Union Square in the city to mark what American labor built. Twelve years later, it became a federal holiday. Somewhere down the line, it became our last hurrah for the Summer. Normally, we celebrate with parades, cookouts, or even have one last beach day before the cold weather creeps in.
